My ideal reader

Brand identity

NME annotation

Features page and contents page images

I am happy with the outcome of my pictures, I wasn't going to edit them because I liked the naturalistic tone of them but then after editing one I thought I thought it worked well as the soft light I put on made it focused and sharper.
I plan to use the first image on my front cover, it is a full length shot and the model is looking at the camera, this gives the reader a personal direct address. The other images I can use in my contents and features page.

Target audience after analysing my results

When I analysed my results I could see that the music magazines people listen to most is NME, the main age I found were 14-19 the reason i found this was because on facebook most of my friends are a similar age to me. From this I can interpret that the audience that would be best to aim my magazine at would be this age group as I can understand the things that would be appropriate for this age group.
The genre of music that i would like to use for my magazine is a soft acoustic/soul bands, also live and individual music that is out of the charts. The main reason why i would like to produce a magazine of this calibre is so I can  make a magazine that isn't different and focuses on unsigned bands and different music.

Preliminary flat plan of front cover

Preliminary task- contents page

Preliminary task- front cover

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

Evaluation
I have been researching different music magazines and looking at the different forms and conventions that are used widely. I then adapted them so they would work in a school magazine.

The forms and conventions that I used from researching different magazines were; house colours, banners, leading, medium close up (for the front cover), mast head and cover lines and typography.
The house colours I used for my school magazines were black and white and a grey/pink tone. The reason why I chose these colours were because they go well together and symbolise a young fashionable trend; this is a connotation how magazines also follow trends. All these forms and conventions helped me to create a front cover and contents page that looks professional and realistic.
In the front cover of my magazine I used the house colours of black, white and grey/pink tones. These colours are also used in the contents page, this represents a running trend. I Believe that the house colours and one of the most important aspects in creating a magazine as they help make my magazine stand out as the people who 'buy' the magazine will recognise the brand identity making the success and popularity much higher.

The name of my magazine is 'Perform In Arts' the reason why I chose this name was because it is a school that focuses on the arts, e.g. Drama, dance, music and also other smaller courses such as photography and technical back stage work. The title 'Perform in Arts' is a connotation for the word 'performing arts' as the people in the school perform in all different areas of ' The arts'.

The typography I used for my title was serif the reason I used this was to create a classier and more professional tone to the magazine as the magazine is a representation of the school so this would show the reader what sort of school it is. This is very important to get right as I had to thing or the target audience and what people would think is anaesthetically pleasing. I used sefif font on the cover lines and also the banner on the front cover. The font was different but they were still serif the reason why i didn't use exactly the same font was because the things on the front cover weren't all realted so i used the font type to detract the attention from them. I think this concept works well and it also makes the front cover look more exciting.

Medium close up (front cover)
My meduim close up image on the front cover takes up 3/4 of the page and when i edited it ( using photoshop) i duplicated the image and then changed it so it was a grey/pink tone, this let me establish my house colours and make it clear to the reader. When i first editied the image it was all grey/pink but i wnated the dress to stand out more so i cut the dress out and erased it make to the original colout and then duplicated it and but a hard light over so it made it stand out. I think this looks very effective and and is also inkeeping with the house colour of pink and the dress has pink flowers on it.

Contents Page:

i put a banner of images done the left had side of the contents page the reason why i did this was so the magazine wasnt all black and white. These images injected colour in to the magazine and the reader would be drawn to the left hand side and then they would be drawn across to the right hand side to the title ' conetnts page' as the first image on the banner is in line with the title.
i used a differnt style to the information and page numbers on the contents page by puting page one on the left then underneath pge two on the right hand side and so on. This makes it more interseting to read an the reader would be going from left to right rather than reader just down and getting bored.

The contents page also holds the house colours the background is plain black and the title is pink and white. Also the page numbers are pink and the information is white.
Also a technique i used to make some of the information stand out more i put parts of it in a bigger font of in italics e.g i put 'important dates' in a larger font etc...

mise-en-scene- in my pictures i made sure the images in natual lighting rather than using flash so it would fit with the contrast of the background. i wanted to use natural light to fit the brief of day to day school in natual day light. on my contents page i used 6 images down the left hand side so it would draw the eye line from those
images and then across to the the contents page.

How does my media product represent particular social groups:
My magazine represents working/middle class students as it is a performing arts school. The students will as be in similar social groups as they are all interested in similar things e.g drama, music and dance. I made my magazine so that it would represent these social groups. I did this by putting pictures up of people reading, people taking photos, a band singing and on the guitar and also students so this represents all different social groups.

The media institustion that might distipute my magazine would be schools that are mainly focused on performing arts. The reason for this is because my magazine shows people in drama or doing things that suggest it is a drama school.
The audience for my product would be a school of students who are interested in ' The arts' it wouldnt be a magazine for people who are interested in maths or science.

analysing forms and conventions of front covers

I have annotated this front cover so that I can begin to understand the way they are formed and the different aspects that enhance the brand identity and popularity. The genre of my magazine is acoustic/folky, i am aiming to attract a a target audience of 16-25. The people who would be attracted to my magazine are the types of people who perceive themselves to have an individual image and taste of music to the majority of people. I see my readers following the less mainstream music and fashion trends, in order to make my magazine appeal to this audience I learnt and developed the forms and conventions used in real media products. But i have taken into consideration that genres and trends are forever changing so i had to have a variety to keep my readers interested.
